anorexic syndrome has swept the laptop market, or may be that only applies to Asus. it has introduced the Asus U36 laptop, touted to be the world’s thinnest standard Intel Core i5-equipped laptop, measuring just 19-mm (0.75-inches) thick. apart from having a slim form factor, the laptop weighs just 1.44-kg (3.17-lbs) – thanks to its lightweight magnesium alloy with nanometer coating construction. the choice of material for the chassis also brings about the advantage of resistant to dirt, water and fingerprint marks.

what makes the Asus U36 different is the use of a standard voltage Intel Core i5 processor as opposed to low voltage processor which may otherwise compromise its performance. Asus boast a break through in the design that allows the use of a standard i5 processor in a sleek chassis and its dual heat pipe design promptly resolves the heat dissipation issue associated with the standard processor without adding bulk. the U36 also features Asus Super Hybrid Engine that allows switching off the USB 3.0 functionality, and combining with NVIDIA graphics and Optimus technology that enables it to achieve a claimed 11.5 hours of battery life.
other features include a 13.3-inch HD TFT display with 1366 x 768 resolution, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity, 500 GB hard drive and 5-in-1 card reader. the Asus U36 laptop is available now in UK stores and online from Micro Anvika for £699 (about US$1,118). the laptop will also be available via Comet UK from end of June. check out a product ad plus a U36 hands-on video after the break.
