The ‘90s made-popular-by-hip-hop-culture sagging fashion has returned, and this time, it’s less about dress style and more about a fashion piece. How? Well, here’s how: the Balenciaga Men’s Layered Jeans in Black.
The Balenciaga Men’s Layered Jeans in Black is literally ready-to-wear sagging because it is a pair of layered jeans — midnight black denim kuroki and black — sewn to a pair of red techno poplin. Taken from Look 10 of the Balenciaga Spring 25 Collection, it employs the artistic technique of trompe l’œil, meaning “deceive the eye” in French.
In this case, the designer pulled off an optical illusion of two separate pieces through two different waists, but it is, in fact, one single piece. The boon? It looks like the denim may slip to the ground anytime but it never will!
The actual waist is an elasticated tracksuit pants waistband, complete with five belt loops, five pockets, a flared leg (basically bell-bottoms), a Balenciaga label at the back, and, of course, the signature look of sagging: the low crotch. It’s a unique take on sagging culture because, let’s be honest, bell-bottoms had already gone out of fashion by the time sagging hit the streets. So I guess this is a hybrid fashion piece?
Anyhoo, if you dig this pre-sagged masterpiece, be prepared to splurge. The Balenciaga Men’s Layered Jeans in Black will set you back a steep US$1,950 in the US. Also, be prepared for some serious stares — and probably a few giggles — on the streets!
