Balenciaga x Showichi Kaneda F1 Shark Sculptures

Balenciaga has taken its high-octane flair to uncharted waters—quite literally—by merging the sleek world of Formula 1 with the predatory grace of hammerhead sharks. In collaboration with Japanese artist Showichi Kaneda, the fashion house has unveiled F1-inspired shark sculptures that are as striking as they are conceptually wild.

Dubbed the latest additions to Kaneda’s celebrated Human’s Own series, these sculptures aren’t just for show; they’re a high-gloss commentary on speed, progress, and survival. Crafted to commemorate the Las Vegas Grand Prix, the first sculpture made its debut at Balenciaga’s Wynn Plaza boutique. Measuring four feet in length and boasting a red-and-black design, this hammerhead-shaped marvel is a head-turner in more ways than one.

Each sculpture is a meticulously engineered masterpiece. Kaneda began by designing the individual parts digitally, 3D printing them, and then hand-refining each piece before encasing the whole in resin. The result? A shimmering, aerodynamic finish that simultaneously evokes traditional Japanese lacquerware and a freshly waxed race car. Naturally, Balenciaga’s logo is emblazoned across the design, inspired by the branding of actual racing uniforms.

If you missed the Vegas installation, fear not—other editions are hitting global circuits. A red-and-white version is set to debut in Dubai, while a green iteration remains shrouded in mystery, likely waiting for its dramatic unveiling.

This isn’t Balenciaga’s first foray into the F1 world. Following the success of the Smart #1 (a literal race car in streetwear form) and the introduction of their Unity Sports logo via apparel, these sculptures cement their commitment to blending fashion, art, and automotive culture.

The price of entry? A cool $70,000. But if you’re in the market for a hammerhead shark made from F1 DNA—and a whole lot of Balenciaga swagger—this might just be your catch of the day.
