Barbie has held enough jobs to make a résumé several feet long. For this release, though, she is honoring someone whose actual résumé is already rather intimidating: Serena Williams.
The Barbie Signature Role Models Serena Williams Doll celebrates the tennis superstar with an outfit drawn from the title match of her seventh major singles victory. A racket, ball, and signature accessories complete the look. You can provide the crowd noise, although the neighbors may have questions.
Designed by Carlyle Nuera, the doll features a face sculpt modeled on Williams and an Athletic Made-to-Move body. That articulation gives you some freedom to recreate tennis poses rather than leaving one of the sport’s greatest players standing politely with her equipment. She didn’t build that career waiting around.
The release carries Barbie’s Black Label designation and includes a Certificate of Authenticity. Packaging is designed by Charis Ceniseroz, and a doll stand is supplied. Yes, the miniature Serena needs help standing. We shall allow Mattel that one concession to gravity.
The Barbie Signature Role Models Serena Williams Doll is listed at Mattel Creations for US$45. It is suitable for ages six and up, so it can serve as both a collectible and an introduction to the woman behind the racket.
