This global pandemic has forced many activities to be canceled. In light of social distancing, Japanese funeral company Yamagata Funeral Company/Hakuzensha is highlighting its “online grave visit” service.

With this service, the funeral company will visit and tidy the grave, and make offerings like flowers on its customers’ behalf. The proceeding will be live streamed over Zoom, so customers will be able to witness the process as it unfolds using a smartphone or tablet, at the comfort of their own home.

The service is not limited to this unprecedented time; it is also for those who are not convenient to visit the grave due to illness or when the deceased’s family are far away from home, such as in other country.

The Yamagata Prefecture-based funeral service company is now taking reservation for the service. It is not clear how much it will cost.
