Bell & Ross is best known for making square hip again and now, it is probably going to be known as the watchmaker that makes a skull laugh, like literally. Meet the BR01 Laughing Skull Watch, the latest BR series watch that features a dial face of a skull that laughs. OK. Maybe just visually. It does not chuckle like the Crypt Keeper, which is actually a good thing cos’ you don’t want to creep yourself or anyone out. Also, it won’t randomly laugh; the moveable jaw of the skull only moves, revealing a sneak of its inner workings ever so slightly, when you dial the crown.
The fancy laughing skull has no bearing on its performance, but it is visually rather, well, fun and this ‘fun’ and very likely a conversational piece comes with quite a price. The standard issue costs $9,900, while the light diamonds and full diamonds versions commands $18,000 and a super cool $30,000, respectively. Obviously, the latter two costs way more by the virtue of the precious stones (the light has 104 diamonds and the full is loaded with 394 diamonds totally 2,891 ct.), otherwise all three models are the same under the hood.
Common features include caliber BR-CAL.206 hand-wound movement, 46mm micro-blasted steel case with “Clou de Paris” design, hours and minutes function, appliqué metal skull dial with metal skeletonized Superluminova-filled hour and minute hands, sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, water resistance to 100 meters (328 feet), and finally wrapping with a brown alligator and black rubber strap, paired to micro-blasted steel pin-style buckle. As far as we know, you can’t get in online, well at least, not officially. If you want one, you will need to hit up Bell & Ross boutiques.
