If you are planning to turn a lovely BMW M4 into a track-going beast, well, don’t, because BMW wants to save you the hassle with this tuned-for-track 2018 BMW M4 GT4. That’s right. The luscious M4 has a track variant and it wouldn’t be anything less of a ‘yay’ for track enthusiasts and racing car teams. As the name suggests, the GT4 is built upon the M4 Coupé, which means it inherited the engine and transmission, including control electronics, from the M4 Coupé, but being a tuned-for-track ride, it gets some serious upgrades like carbon hood from the BMW M4 GTS, carbon-fiber doors, motorsport-specific splitters and rear wings, a racing exhaust system, and seat, brakes and pedal box borrowed from BMW M6 GT3.
As you can see, the 2018 BMW M4 GT4 is kind of like a culmination of the best of BMW, and those aren’t even the entire story. On the performance aspect, it gets a tweaked engine control software featuring plug-and-play SRO Motorsports Group-approved power sticks, which allows it to be pre-programmed for different performance levels and thus, bestowing you to adapt the car’s performance to various races. The interior is, naturally, of race car driver kind of comfort with loads of carbon fiber, roll cage and whatnot.
Furthermore, months were devoted to testing the BMW M4 GT4 on the tracks to fine tune the performance, but the real major test of its power will be at the 2017 Nürburgring 24 Hours happening on May 27-28 when it will race to prove its worth. Yes. It is racing and honestly, you can’t say many automakers will take it this far to prove their track-focused rides are indeed track-worthy. Those keen will be glad to know that the 2018 BMW M4 GT4 available for taking in exchange for 169,000 euros (about US$189,000), excluding taxes, of your hard-earned money.
