BYD has unleashed its latest creation, the Shark—a plug-in hybrid pickup truck that’s here to make waves in the automotive world. With a name like “Shark,” one might expect it to have a taste for other pickups on the road. And with its impressive specs, it just might.
Under the hood, the Shark boasts a combined output of over 430 horsepower, propelling it from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in a swift 5.7 seconds. That’s faster than you can say “hybrid pickup” three times fast. Its dual-motor setup ensures that whether you’re cruising the city streets or venturing off-road, you’ll have the power and stability you need.
But speed isn’t its only trick. The Shark offers an all-electric range of up to 100 kilometers (about 62 miles), perfect for those short commutes or silent getaways. And when you need to go the distance, its total range extends to approximately 840 kilometers (around 522 miles). Plus, with a fuel consumption rate of just 7.5 liters per 100 kilometers, it’s as efficient as it is fierce.
Inside, the Shark doesn’t skimp on luxury. A rotatable central touchscreen, voice control, remote vehicle management, NFC digital key, W-HUD head-up display, and a 540-degree ultra-wide-angle panoramic camera are just a few of the tech features packed into this beast. It’s like having a Swiss Army knife on wheels.
Safety is also a priority, with BYD’s signature Blade Battery technology and a high-strength steel frame ensuring both durability and protection. And for those who like to take their adventures off the beaten path, the Shark’s modular design offers ample customization options, including an external discharge function in the cargo bed for all your outdoor power needs.
Now, let’s talk numbers. In Mexico, the Shark is available in two trims: the GL, starting at 899,980 Mexican pesos (approximately $53,400), and the GS, priced at 969,800 pesos (around $58,100). In Cambodia, it’s set to start at around US$56,700. As for other markets, pricing details are still swimming their way to the surface.
So, whether you’re looking to make a splash in the city or ride the waves of the open road, the BYD Shark is poised to take a bite out of the competition.
