Chogokin Back to the Future III Time Train

Good news, super fans of the Back to the Future trilogy: one of the most iconic time machines has finally received the collector-worthy treatment. No, we’re not talking about the jacked-up DeLorean or the one outfitted with train wheels—we’re talking about the Time Train. I know, right? Your Back to the Future collection finally has closure.

Chogokin Back to the Future III Time Train

Announced just in time for the franchise’s 40th anniversary this year is the Chogokin Back to the Future Part III Time Train. It’s a scale replica of the steam locomotive-turned-time machine as seen in Back to the Future Part III (1990). Because it’s a Chogokin—literally “super alloy”—you can expect this big guy to have some serious heft. At around 520 mm long, this collectible demands both shelf space and arm strength.

As a proper collector’s item, it’s loaded with screen-accurate details, plus lights and sound. LEDs bring to life features like the DeLorean-style “afterburner” glow, and moving parts like the bellows, steam engine, and that spinning vane thingy add to the dynamic display. It comes with a small section of train track for classic rail mode, but the Time Train can also transform into its flight mode—just like when Doc hops across timelines with his family.

In hover mode, the wheels fold up, the vertical fin deploys, and the wings are installed. A set of stands lets you display it mid-air, as if it’s ready to fly off into another decade. The cab doors open to reveal a finely detailed interior. Oh, and yes—it includes both the locomotive and the tender, just like in the movie. While it’s not stated explicitly, we imagine the tender serves as the reactor (or maybe a cozy time-travel lounge for the fam).

No word yet on when it’ll be available or how much it’ll cost. In the meantime, here’s the Japanese promo video to get you drooling:
