Citizen PROMASTER 30th Anniversary Limited Watches

I can’t remember when non-luxe watchmaker began their presence at Baselworld. Anyways, here they are some watches from the nearly 9 decade old Japanese watchmaker Citizen. Marking the 30th anniversary of the company’s PROMASTER series, Citizen has announced 3 celebratory watches at this year’s Baselworld, highlighting the three categories, Air, Land and Sea. The three watches are Citizen PROMASTER Eco-Drive Satellite Wave GPS, Citizen PROMASTER Eco-Drive Altichron, and Citizen PROMASTER Eco-Drive Aqualand.

Citizen PROMASTER Eco-Drive Satellite Wave GPS

The Citizen PROMASTER Eco-Drive Satellite Wave GPS is, as you may have already noticed, an aviation watch inspired by cockpit instruments and heads-up display. It comes with a rugged case, bold multi-layer face design (5 separate layers!) and comprehensive specifications with aviation scale.

Here’s a quick rundown of the key details:

• High-end light-powered Eco-Drive movement with SATELLITE WAVE GPS Cal. 990.
• Twice the spinning speed of hour and minute hands for HOME time corrections (compared to previous model)
• High-speed twin-coil motor reduces the time required for hand movements forward or reverse (equivalent to 360° moving of minute hand) in less than one second.
• Receives a time signal from GPS satellite in a minimum of 3 seconds.
• Corrects time and calendar by syncing with GPS satellites (for any 39 cities)
• Shows the time in two different world time zones simultaneously and function switches between home time and local time in one instant step.
• 1/1 second chronograph measures 24 hours.
• Light Level Indicator detects and displays the intensity of light striking the dial in seven sensitivity levels.
• Features aviation scale and design using ground-air visual signal codes to enhance the characteristics as a professional pilot watch.
• Sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective coating
• Super Titanium comes with special surface hardening technology combining Duratect MRK and Duratect DLC that resists scratches and damage.
• Larger indexes and hands with luminescence and orange accent.
• 30th anniversary logo and serial number stamped on case back.

Citizen PROMASTER Eco-Drive Altichron

The Citizen PROMASTER Eco-Drive Altichron is the Land series featuring a tough titanium exterior with newly developed “Duratect MRK Gold”, a minimalist layout dial without sacrificing information, and different colors between hour and minute hands and display hand info.

Here are the key details of the Altichron:

• Lightweight and robust Eco-Drive movement
• Altimeter measures 10,000 meters (32,808 feet) from ground level — higher than the tallest mountain on Earth — to minus 300 meters (984 feet) below sea level.
• Displays all information in analog.
• Displays altitude or orientation while maintaining display time.
• Uses three hands to display altitude for more accuracy.
• Super Titanium comes in gold-color case with newly developed surface hardening technology Duratect MRK Gold that resists scratches and damage.
• Back lid contact layer cover prevents the wearer’s skin from touching the cold metal of back lid for usage under extreme cold conditions.
• Sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective coating
• Super Titanium comes with special surface hardening technology combining Duratect MRK and Duratect DLC that resists scratches and damage.
• Features synthesized urethane and nylon materials band for enhanced durability and comfortable wear.
• 30th anniversary logo and serial number stamped on case back.

Citizen PROMASTER Eco-Drive Aqualand

The Citizen PROMASTER Eco-Drive Aqualand is the last of the three belonging to the Sea series. It is a diving watch with a very classic Citizen design, sporting a large easy-to-read hands and simple index design, and luminous and different colors for at-a-glance differentiation of information.

The Citizen PROMASTER Eco-Drive Satellite Wave GPS will arrive on U.S. shore in Autumn 2019. It is limited to just 1,989 unit, price at $2,500. The Citizen PROMASTER Eco-Drive Altichron is also limited to 1,989 units worldwide and it will land in stores in August 2019 selling for $975. The Citizen PROMASTER Eco-Drive Aqualand has more to go around, at 6,000 units, and much more affordable at $775. Available is also earlier in June 2019.

Features aside, personally, I am not as impressed the Citizen PROMASTER Eco-Drive Professional Diver 1000m. It is one hell of chunky watch that I simply can’t peel my eyes away. Despite it being introduced two years ago, the Citizen PROMASTER Eco-Drive Professional Diver 1000m still had me every single time. Here, have a look at the promo video of the 1000m:
