Remember the Arcflash Labs GR-1 Anvil Gauss Rifle? Well, it turns out it was not the only coil gun, aka railgun, that money can buy. There was the Coil Accelerator MK.1 Electromagnetic Gun. It is sold out now—and gone forever, which means it ain’t coming back. But there is a Next Gen model coming your way. More on the Next Gen Coil Accelerator later, because we’re here for the MK.1, which is, aesthetically speaking, god damn cool.

Where the Next Gen tries to look more like a regular bullpup rifle, the MK.1 is straight out of a sci-fi movie. It looks like a rectangular block with minimal interruptions. There’s no handle in the traditional sense—the handle is completely “melted” into the gun. There’s a hole for the thumb to wrap around and three fingers grip a minimal “handle,” which is more like a small curve. The trigger is also pretty futuristic, sliding along the top and bottom of the trigger frame. It has a Picatinny rail up top for your optics, though no physical sights.
Up front, it has an angled piece with a small digital display showing the number of rounds left, firing mode, battery level, and temperature. The magazine is a double-sided design with 25 rounds loaded back-to-back and is almost flush with the weapon. The projectiles are disc-like metal pieces. So, yeah, it’s super sci-fi.
Like a proper gun, it has a safety—though it’s a slider. There’s a button to turn the gun on (strange to say that, but that’s the case), and buttons for rate of fire (Min or Max) and firing mode. Apparently, it’s not classified as a firearm.
As for tech specs, the Coil Accelerator MK.1 boasts a velocity of 80–145 fps and is capable of putting out 600 rounds per minute on full auto. It does 5-round bursts at 2,400 RPM and has a semi-auto mode too. It takes an hour to fully charge this bad boy, which gets you over 700 rounds on a single charge. It also has three levels of energy adjustment. If you really need to know, the energy rating is 3–16 joules.
The Next Gen is also quite futuristic-looking, by the way. It looks like something straight out of Starship Troopers. You can learn more—and even pre-order the Next Gen Coil Accelerator—HERE. The price is the same as the MK.1, which is US$1,600.
