We talk and hear a lot about the future. Future of transportation, future of housing, future technology, but one thing we almost never talk about is future of fashion, specifically, kicks, and so it is kind of refreshing to pick up a piece that talked about the future of sneakers through a concept rendering. Originally conceived as an entry for the Pensole contest “Fusion of Footwear” by Mexico-based industrial and product design student David Olivares, this pair of sneakers of the future imagines an all-condition footwear that was a collaboration between two German brands: Adidas Y-3 and apparel label ACRONYM, to result in what the designer referred to as a “high fashion utility high-top sneaker,” a boot-high-top hybrid called Y-A FUYU HIGH.

I will be honest with you. At first glance, it is a little too unconventional to accept, but hey, it is the future and besides, it kind of grows on me fairly quickly. I attribute my initial inability to accept to the angular design which pretty much defies designed convention and also, the shape of a regular person’s foot which is curvaceous – unless you are android or humanoid or maybe an alien. Anywho, if Adidas Y-3 x ACRONYM Y-A FUYU HIGH looks weird to you, then may we suggest that you give it some time. After all, you never know if the future shoes may just look like this. So, yeah, get used to it. Or maybe not. Regardless, we invite you to take a few more look below.
