Remember Devolved Parliament, Banksy’s work from 2009 depicting a bunch of chimpanzees as members of the House of Commons? Well, it was a record sale for the British street artist.
After a 13-minute of intense bidding, Devolved Parliament was sold for a whopping £9,978,500 (£8.5 million plus premiums), or about US$12.3 million based on today’s going rate.
The sale topped Banksy’s previous most expensive artwork, Keep It Spotless, which was sole in 2008 in New York for $1.87 million.
