Believe it or not, DJI has a building set too. In fact, the DJI FPV Drone Building Set which was recently launched in China isn’t it is first. Previously, the drone maker had a DJI Mavic Pro brick-built model too. Moreover, both the new DJI FPV and DJI Mavic Pro building sets are not the only toys from the Chinese drone maker; remember there were the RoboMaster Technic/Mindstorm-style toys from 2019/2020?
Anyhoo, the DJI FPV building set is part of the Engineered by DJI series and the DJI designers had hands in the design of the set. This results in a 1:1 highly accurate replica of the actual drone. The model uses 899 elements to realize the DJI FPV with details like ventilation, radar and LED light.
The rotors can rotate, and the onboard “camera” can also be adjusted. It even has a removable battery pack. Another highlight of this building set is that where graphics are required, they are all printed on the elements. Now, that’s something I totally dig.
The aircraft comes with a buildable flight stand to let you display the completed model in flight. The flight stand is also home to a drone info plaque. You can display it without the stand, btw. When completed, the DJI FPV building set measures 30 cm long, 21 cm wide, and 12.6 cm tall (about 11.8 x 8.3 x 5 inches). It measures 21.5 cm (8.5 inches) tall on the brick-build flight stand.
The DJI FPV Drone Building Set is now available from the DJI China website for 199 yuan [CH] which works out to be around US$27 today. It is recommended for ages 6 and up.
