Avid mobile videographers, amateur and professional alike, will want to take note of the new handheld smartphone gimbal from DJI, the DJI OSMO Mobile 3 Foldable Mobile Gimbal. As the product name suggests, this successor to the DJI OSMO Mobile 2 Handheld Smartphone Gimbal introduced last year is foldable – the first in the market, I believe – and therefore, you know, it is a lot more travel-friendly.
Like its predecessor, it is no lacking of intelligent features to ensure ultra-steady video footage. Also as before, it is designed with one-hand operation in mind with all important controls placed within your thumb’s reach. Another standout feature of the DJI OSMO Mobile 3 is the Story Mode:
“Story Mode: Bring creative editing to your video with a host of preset music, video transitions, and filters. Choose one of 13 fun templates and Mimo will handle the camera movement for you. After shooting, Mimo automatically generates your very own professionally edited short video, ready to be shared.”
Other key notables include easily switch between portrait and landscape orientation, re-positioned charging and audio ports, trigger for locking orientation, rotating gimbal and re-centering, gesture control for easy selfie/wefie, sport mode featuring increased response speed to keep up with fast-moving scenes, ActiveTrack 3.0 for tracking your subject, and support a host of shooting mode such as TimeLapse and MotionLapse, HyperLapse (which also supports real-time EIS and ActiveTrack 3.0), Panorama as well as up 8x slo-mo.
The DJI OSMO Mobile 3 Foldable Mobile Gimbal is available now for a surprisingly affordable $105. Not going to lie. I am pleasantly surprised by the competitive pricing.
