When the Ferrari Luce was revealed, we only talked about it for what it is. No judgment whatsoever. Deep down, though, we knew it was the most un-Ferrari Ferrari ever. You could even say it looks rather amateurish in a sense.
Fair enough, because the designers who penned it did not have any actual automotive design experience prior to this. No, the ’99 Ford 021C concept car does not count, nor does the stillborn Project Titan. But never mind that, because enthusiasts’ wallets could not have been more honest, as proven by the recent auction of the Chassis 0 Luce and the car’s reported order numbers.
Besides, you can always count on aftermarket tuners to save the “ugliest Ferrari” ever. Case in point: a mildly modded Luce by Miami-based aftermarket wheel manufacturer Vossen Wheels.
And by doing so, Vossen Wheels might have inadvertently proven that the Luce isn’t ugly. It just needs a new set of wheels to make a world of difference, or perhaps the suspension lowered a little.
The wheel manufacturer shared a lowered Ferrari Luce wearing the new Vossen G2-13T wheels, and I am not going to lie: it makes a world of difference, despite the ride also wearing a non-traditional color for the Prancing Horse marque.
The wheel is part of Vossen’s custom forged lineup, which, I hear, is built to order with fully customizable width and offset dimensions. I am not sure if we are getting this right, but it apparently features the brand’s Duoblock forged layout with a rally-inspired aerodisc/turbine style.
It is not clear exactly what size the wheels are, but it looks like the combination of the lowered suspension and dished wheels enables them to fill out the massive wheel arches of Ferrari’s controversial EV.
To be honest, if I did not know better, I would think the Luce was a good-looking car. But once you know it is a Ferrari, some people automatically have certain expectations, and the Luce is definitely not it.
Anyhoo, the Vossen Wheels-equipped Luce looked good enough to change some opinions. Maybe. I am not sure. It sure changed mine.
Vossen Wheels isn’t the first, though, to attempt to change the look of the Luce. A Dubai-based tuner called Venuum also tried to “fix” the styling with an aggressive body kit, albeit a digital one—at least, it was back in June. The kit turned the Ferrari Luce from a docile, elegant ride into a menacing car that looks ready to take to the track for time attacks.
If anyone’s interested, the G2-13T will be available soon from Vossen Wheels. It will be offered in 19-, 20-, 21-, 22-, 23-, 24-inch sizes, and a choice of 48 colors. But be warned, they do not come cheap. Prices start at a cool US$2,600 each.
