Another year and another Frank Zappa’s Halloween collection. If you are a major huge Frank Zappa’s fan, you probably already own the Halloween 77 and Halloween 73 sets. If so, there’s no reason to be missing this newest release: Frank Zappa Six-Disc Halloween 81 Costume Box Set.
This must-have Frank Zappa collection features 78 unreleased live tracks, totaling over seven hours of live performances from three complete concerts from Zappa’s historic October 31 Halloween night concerts and the closing November 1 show recorded live at The Palladium in 1981.
Making this collection even more desirable is the included Count Frankula mask along with a read and black cape, so you can dress up like vampire Frank Zappa for this year’s Halloween, or simply for displaying alongside your FRANKenZAPPA mask and gloves from last year’s Halloween 73 box and the retro mask and costumer from the inaugural release in 2018.
Frank Zappa Six-Disc Halloween 81 Costume Box Set is fully authorized by Zappa Trust and produced by Ahmet Zappa and Zappa Vaultmeister Joe Travers, and newly mixed from the original Ampex 456 2-inch 24-track analog tape masters by Craig Parker Adams in 2020.
Also included in the box set is a 40-page booklet containing rare photos from the events by John Livzey and new liner notes by touring band member Robert Martin, Vaultmeister Joe Travers and super fan-in-attendance Gary Titone who pens a remembrance of the shows.
If box set isn’t for you, or you are a fan who need to have it all, there is also a 1CD version titled Halloween 81: Highlights From The Palladium, New York City. The single disc album features performances from all three shows, plus an exclusive track, Strictly Genteel, from the November 1 show not included in the box set. It will be packaged in a jewel case with liners by Travers.
