another day, another China designed and produced smartphone hits the market. we are talking about the GEAK Eye and Mars Smartphones, announced at a Beijing event a couple of days ago. the Eye is set to woo shutter-happy smartphone enthusiasts, while the Mars is geared towards high-end performance. destined for pre-orders on the 25th this month for a no-contract price of RMB1,999 (about US$326) for the Eye and $2,999 (around US$489) for the Mars. the GEAK Eye is equipped with a 5″ HD IPS display with OGS lamination and at its heart is a quad core 1.2GHz chip from MediaTek, along with 1GB of RAM. both the Eye and Mars gets a 13MP BSI main camera and a 8MP front for the Eye and 2MP item for the Mars.

particular attention was given to the Eye’s imaging components which include sapphire glass cover, 5P lens with blue coating, special coating on lens that is said to prevent purple fringing, ghosting and the likes, a large F2.2 aperture, and Sony Exmor RS sensor. all told, the main shooter on the Eye is capable of capturing stills at ISO sensitivity up to 3,200. the Mars, on the other hand, gets a 5.85″ Full HD IPS (also with OGS lamination) boasting 377 ppi, 2nd-gen Corning Gorilla Glass for display protection, a quad-core 1.7GHz Snapdragon processor with full 2GB of RAM, and 16GB onboard storage. naturally, both handsets also features today’s “usual” suite of connectivity and sensors (NFC, WiFi, BT, accelerometer, light and proximity sensors et cetera), but the mega-size Mars is packed with a few more sensors including temperature sensor, pressure sensor, gesture sensor and eye detection sensor.
