Along with the new Pixel 9, Google also revealed a new foldable phone with a name that will keep up with the other Pixel phones: Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold. True to its moniker, it shares the same design language as the rest of the Pixel 9 devices except for the camera module which has a rectangular module to the side of the device.
It is not the best-looking folding phone, IMHO. The straight frame with subtle rounded edges extends beyond the side to front and back—that’s in addition to the black bezel of the external display. As you can imagine, a lot is going on with the external display. However, the Obsidian colorway seems to look better for this design.
The new foldable is Google’s thinnest foldable yet. Not like it has many foldable at this point. However, Google claims the new Pixel 9 Pro Fold has the largest inner display ever seen on a mobile device—an 8-inch Super Actua Flex display featuring LTPO technology, supporting a 1-120 Hz refresh rate.
This display is 80% brighter than its predecessor, allowing comfortable viewing under bright daylight. Plus, it’s tough—sporting scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and an IPX8 water resistance rating for up to 30 minutes underwater.
At the heart of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is Google’s new Tensor G4 chip, which delivers smarter, faster performance while running your favorite apps and AI-powered features. This foldable isn’t just about style; it’s built to help you get more done. Whether you’re multitasking with Split Screen apps, using Dual Screen in Google Meet, or dragging and dropping files, the expansive inner display makes everything feel effortless.
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold also features an ultra-thin advanced triple camera system (48 MP 1/2” sensor wide, 10.5 MP 1/3.4” dual PD ultra-wide, and 10.8” 1/3.2” dual PD telephoto) elevating mobile photography to a new level. With upgrades like Macro Focus for ultrawide shots and front cameras that support Face Unlock whether folded or unfolded, it’s a camera powerhouse.
And there’s a fun new addition: Made You Look, a feature that displays animations on the outer screen to capture your little one’s smile without you having to make goofy faces.
Entertainment lovers will be thrilled with the updated aspect ratios and large screen, perfect for immersive gaming and streaming. With multiview on YouTube TV, you can catch four events at once, making the game day better than ever. Optimized gaming experiences with popular titles like Asphalt Unite and Disney Speedstorm ensure you’re always ready for some serious playtime.
