You are not experiencing a déjà vu. The Pixel Buds Pro 2 are not new hardware. They launched in 2024, received more features in 2025, and have now wandered into Google’s 2026 lineup with another software to-do list. Earbuds apparently age in software years now. Well, not surprising coming from a company that lives on the ethos “software is king”.
Anyhoo, each 4.7 g bud contains an 11 mm driver, Google Tensor A1 chip, beamforming microphones, and a twist-to-adjust stabilizer. Silent Seal 2.0 provides active noise cancellation, while Adaptive Audio balances noise reduction with environmental awareness. Spatial audio with head tracking, loud-noise protection, conversation detection, touch controls, wireless charging, and an IP54 rating are also included.
Battery life reaches eight hours with ANC or 12 without it, expanding to 30 or 48 hours with the case. Five minutes inside provides up to 90 minutes of listening.
Coming in September are real-time Live Translate, voice-controlled audio settings, and sleep integration with Pixel Watch. The latter pauses playback, disables gestures, and silences notifications after detecting that you have fallen asleep—possibly halfway through a podcast someone insisted was fascinating.
Pixel Buds Pro 2 normally sells for US$229, though Google currently lists them at US$189 through August 23. I feel sorry for the users who jumped on it two years ago. As a consolation, at least this attractive price isn’t permanent.
