GoPro HERO12 Black Action Camera

GoPro has recently revealed its next-gen GoPro action camera, GoPro HERO12 Black. TBH, I don’t quite how to start because the upgrades are minimal. Most aspects of the specifications are the same as the GoPro HERO11, including horizon lock, horizon leveling, video resolution and framerates, and even the sensor, which is a 1/19” CMOS with 27.6-megapixel active pixels.

But that is not to say it is not worth the upgrade if you already have the GoPro HERO11 Black. It would be an upgrade if you desire to record 5.3K and 4K HDR video, and/or you are an underwater adventurer because HDR videoing comes standard with this new camera and it supports a waterproof shutter remote.

Speaking of underwater, it has the same water resistance to 10 meters (33 feet) and while it runs on the same removable 1,720 mAh Enduro Battery as its predecessor, GoPro said its newest flagship camera has up to 2x longer runtimes.

The new action cam also touts wireless audio support for Apple AirPods and other Bluetooth devices, improved HyperSmooth 6.0 video stabilization, plus new camera features for both professional and casual users.

It has got an updated user interface that simplifies the controls and adds a new Vertical Capture mode for recording vertical 9:16 aspect ratio 4K video when the camera is mounted horizontally.

Other features include Timecode Sync which makes it easy for professionals to synchronize multiple HERO12 Black cameras, GP-Log with available Look-Up Tables (LUTs) for more control, and pro-level color grading. It also features optimized encoding that delivers smaller file sizes without compromising image quality.

Another thing that is new to the GoPro HERO12 is an integrated 1/4-20 mounting.

Along with the GoPro HERO12, GoPro also introduces a new Max Lens Mod 2.0 accessory which is the market’s widest 177° field of view at 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. It is worth noting the Max Lens Mod 2.0 also works with the previous generation GoPro.
