TBH, I am not wowed by the new DeLorean, the Alpha5. The lines, though sleek, have been used many times over. But that changes when it swings open its doors. Yup. They are gullwing doors.
To be clear, when I said “not wowed” it means it does not have that kind of impact as the 80s DMC-12. You know, sharp edges, gullwing doors, and head-turning stainless steel finished. It was radical.
The DeLorean Alpha5 is still sleek just not as radical as the DMC-12. Anyhoo, there is no in-depth info about the new DeLorean but we do get some estimated performance numbers and visual treats, which are good enough to maintain our interest in this upcoming EV.
Exactly what will be powering the vehicle is unknown. But according to DMC, it will wipe 0-60 (0-92 km/h) in 2.99 seconds and has a top speed of around 155 miles an hour (249 km/h). The company cheekily included a 0-88 sprint time, which is 4.35 seconds, even though it clearly will not time travel.
Whatever electric drive is under the hood or under the body, it will be paired to a 100+ kWh battery system that offers an estimated range of over 300 miles (483 kilometers). And it has a drag coefficient of 0.23 Cd (also an estimate).
The DMC DeLorean Alpha5 Electric Vehicle will make its premiere on August 18, 2022, at the prestigious Awards Ramp at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Meanwhile, you can get yourself signed up to be notified when it makes its premiere and when it is available to reserve.
