Japanese company Matssura Kogyo has a solution to hot flashes: IceBattery Fresh. For the uninitiated, hot flashes are a sudden flare of heat, sweating, and discomfort and are common symptoms of menopause. It is a palm-cooling device that will help quell hot flashes.
How does it work? IceBattery Fresh is actually based on a principle discovered by Stanford University which was subsequently further researched at Kobe Women’s University.
It is said that by cooling the palm of the hand, the cooled blood from the hand will be circulated throughout the body, thereby achieving a lowering of the core body temperature which helps to relieve hot flashes.
Matssura Kogyo said that IceBattery Fresh is able to maintain a comfortable temperature of between 15-25°C (59-77 Fahrenheit) and maintain it for a long time. The amazing part is that you can use the pack during winter too.
The product is said to offer coolness during hotter times in spring and summer, maintaining a surface temperature of around 10°C (50 Fahrenheit) and mild coldness of 20°C (68 Fahrenheit) during autumn and winter. This means IceBattery Fresh will work all around the year, even in winter without making the users colder.
However, it is worth noting that this theory of AVA blood vessel (which would be the arterio-venous anastomoses in the human skin) cooling palms and other body parts have not been scientifically proven. But from the review it gets on Rakuten, it seems to be working just intended.
Oh, right. While it is called IceBattery Fresh, it is not battery-powered. You are supposed to freeze it in the freezer and bring it out with you when you head out. Well, in a cooler bag, of course, to maintain the chillness.
The IceBattery Fresh is not just for hot flashes. It is good for cooling in this sweltering summer heat and other applications where cooling is required. There is also a medical variant too.
It appears that IceBattery Fresh is being sold for 1,980 yen (US$14.40) in Japan as a mail delivery exclusive product.
