The action camera that smashes the convention of action camera design, Insta360 ONE R, now has a new and improved version. Called Insta360 ONE RS, it retains the 3-part, modular design featuring a battery, a processor, and a quick swapping lens unit.
Insta360 is now referring to the imaging device as an “interchangeable lens action camera” as opposed to an adaptive action camera but that (interchangeable lens) is really what the Insta360 ONE RS is.
It now has three quick-swapping lenses that let you quickly turn a traditional action camera into a creative 360 cam. The third lens is a new high-performance 4K Boost Lens with a 1/2” 48 MP image sensor.
The Core has been upgraded too, with improved in-camera stabilization, crisper audio, and more. I believe the most exciting feature would be backward compatibility. The new lens and Core are cross-compatible with the ONE R.
As for the 360-lens, it is the previously-released 5.7K 360 lens that features the Invisible Selfie Stiuck effect as well as 360 reframing.
The action camera can be purchased with the optional 5.3K 1-inch wide-angle lens co-engineered with Leica. It supports a bunch of video options, including Cinelapse, Center Stage, Clone Loop, et cetera.
Other notables include active HDR, up to 4K 60 fps videoing, records in cinematic 6K widescreen, captures 48 MP stills, 360 horizon lock, upgraded battery, 2.7K instant zoom, and waterproof to 16 feet (about 5 meters).
The Insta360 ONE RS Interchangeable Lens Action Camera is available for US$299.99 for the 4K Edition. The Twin Edition, which is what most people would want because of the additional lens, goes for US$549.99. The 1-inch Edition is available for US$549.99. The Core, battery, and Mounting Bracket are also available to buy as a bundle.
