Disney is celebrating its 100th anniversary in a big way and part of the celebration involves, well you guessed it, merch. Speaking of merch, if you are just going to pick one item to get, then you probably want it to be the LEGO Disney Walt Disney Tribute Camera (43230) Set.
The LEGO Disney Walt Disney Tribute Camera (43230) Set couldn’t be more appropriate since animations and films were Disney’s beginning. The 811-piece set lets you build a vintage-style movie ‘camera’ featuring the iconic film reel receptacles on top with the number “100” cleverly integrated into it, the film reel crank (to start recording in an actual vintage film reel camera), a side viewfinder, and a matte box that slides open to reveal a lens turret with three lenses that can be rotated.
This may be made for adult fans of LEGO (AFOLs) but it is not a build-and-display set; it has some level of playability, or at least features that let you muck around. The brick-built vintage movie ‘camera’ further features a hinged back panel that opens up to reveal a hidden studio in which the included Walt Disney minifigure can work. Also included are two of the most well-known Disney characters in their original design, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, as well as the two most recognizable animals: Bambi and Dumbo.
In addition to the camera, the set also features a director’s clapperboard with space for the 3 LEGO Disney minifigures, 2 LEGO animal figures, and a multiplane camera with 3 printed screens showing how Disney’s The Old Mill short was made. The clapperboard has a movable lower stick, as a clapperboard should.
When completed, the movie camera measures over 14.5 in. (37 cm) high, 8.5 in (21 cm) wide, and 7 in. (19 cm) deep.
