Long before LEGO started securing licenses from pop culture entertainment properties – which began with Star Wars in 1999, btw – original theme sets were kind of what LEGO was known for, especially the castle and pirate sets. Speaking of pirates, LEGO is invoking the nostalgia moments of LEGO fans who grew up with the original pirate set from 1989 with the new LEGO Icons Eldorado Fortress (10320).
The new LEGO Icons Eldorado Fortress set is based on the original LEGO Pirates theme which makes it a reboot. The set’s return is in response to high demand from LEGO fans after fans voted it to the top of the charts in a recent 90th-anniversary vote on LEGO Ideas.
For the uninitiated, the set is also known as Governor’s Fort Sabre, the Eldorado Fortress was a LEGO Pirates set based on Imperial Forts from the Golden Age of the piracy era. Gen-Y/millennials, that would be the real pirates we talking about, not the Pirate Bay, infamous for pirated software, movies, and music.
Anyhoo, the new LEGO Icons Eldorado Fortress (10320) packs a cool 2,509 pieces for recreating the fortress in incredible detail. It features the fortress (obviously) and working port, a jail, a working crane, trap doors, plus an imperial ship, and a small pirate rowboat.
The set is complete by six soldier minifigures, two pirate minifigures, a cheeky monkey, and a bunch of accessories, including firing cannons, a treasure map, chests, barrels, sacks, muskets, swords, bowls, and more. When completed, the fort in open configuration measures over 10.5 in. (27 cm) high, 27.5 in. (70 cm) wide, and 9.5 in. (24 cm) deep.
The LEGO Icons Eldorado Fortress (10320) will drop on July 07, 2023, for US$214.99. VIP Early Access starts on July 04. Recommended for ages 18 and up.
