The LEGO Ideas set that interpreted Vincent van Gogh’s The Starry Night painting in 3D, brick form is finally going to be available soon. The shortlisted LEGO Ideas submission from LEGO Ideas member legotruman aka Truman Cheng secured the nods of approval from the LEGO review panel last August.
The latest news is, that the LEGO Ideas Vincent van Gogh The Starry Night (21333), as it is called, will hit the shelves on June 01, 2022. Truman proposed set is not only an official LEGO set but it is also one that is created in partnership with the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), where The Starry Night calls home.
As with most LEGO Ideas official sets, Truman’s proposed set has received some tweaks from the LEGO design team. I can’t immediately tell what are the tweaks but one thing for sure is there is a significant bump in the number of pieces – from the original proposed 1,552 pieces to 2,316 pieces.
We imagine the additional pieces are for the frame which the official set now rocks. The frame is a lovely addition by the LEGO design team that makes the painting more like, well, a painting even though it is supposed to be a scene, not quite a painting itself, which Truman imagined the Dutch post-impressionist artist might have drawn his inspiration from as he painted The Starry Night.
That said, the final set does feature the proposed van Gogh Minifigure, paintbrush, palette, and an easel with a printed mini version of The Starry Night painting – with LEGO tweaks, of course – that can stay connected to the main set through a brick-built display arm.
When completed, the model measures over 11 inches tall, 14.5 inches wide, and 4.5 inches deep (28 x 38 x 12 cm). The completed set can be displayed free-standing or wall mounted with the included hook.
Recommended for ages 18 and up, the LEGO Ideas Vincent van Gogh The Starry Night (21333) will arrive on June 01, 2022, for US$169.99. VIP will have early access starting on May 25, 2022.
