We are not entirely disappointed that LEGO’s take on Chinese folklore, Monkey King, is not literal (it is clear that LEGO tried to pull a Ninjago or Nexo Knights with this release). But then, we saw this: a LEGO MOC dubbed Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, by Redverse, and it totally changed our mind.

This particular iteration of the legend makes us double take on our thoughts about the official offering. It really does (even though playability is not quite a consideration with this LEGO MOC).
Sun Wukong, the Monkey King was Redverse entry for Biocup 2020 Round 2. Redverse’s interpretation of the mythical hero looks fantastic and if I can be honest, it makes the official LEGO set looks like child’s play. Oh, wait. Never mind.
Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, is a buildable figure proper and as you can see, this LEGO enthusiast spare no expense in the detail – right down to giving the character fabric pants. And did I mention that it is huge?
Granted, we do not know the actual size, but comparing it to a grown person’s hand holding it, we can be sure it is a large figure. You can see more of Redverse’s LEGO MOC on his Instagram page as well as on Flickr.
