LEGO Star Wars Desert Skiff & Sarlacc Pit (75396) Set

The LEGO Star Wars Jabba’s Sail Barge Display Set really should come with the desert skiff and the infamous Sarlacc pit that ended Boba Fett for a set that is this expensive. Well, what do you know? There is actually a Desert Skiff & Sarlacc Pit set, except that you gotta pay for it separately and it isn’t cheap.

The 75397 commands US$0.13 for price per piece which is kind of the norm for a UCS set but the LEGO Star Wars Desert Skiff & Sarlacc Pit (75396) Set? Well, it’s US$0.14—0.01 cent dearer and that’s not cool because this is a kid’s set, or at least it is designated as such. It is outrageous to price it at the UCS rate, let alone more.

Anyhoo, so yes, LEGO may be testing the waters to see if fans will buy this to complete the Sail Barge. Truth be told. Most of the fans will. I know I will if I ever commit to the Sail Barge set. I am confident many will not pass on the opportunity to create a huge diorama out of these two sets.

For US$79.99, the LEGO Star Wars Desert Skiff & Sarlacc Pit (75396) Set uses 558 pieces to recreate one of the most memorable scenes from the Return of the Jedi. It features a desert skiff with translucent elements to mimic the hover effect, along with playful (or deadly for Han and gang) details like a push-out plank, and foldout railing.

And then there is the infamous carnivorous creature of Tatooine, the Sarlacc, represented as a buildable Sarlacc pit that isn’t just all show; it has levers to move the creature’s tentacles, and it has an opening mouth to devour everyone’s favorite Bounty Hunter—rest in peace, Boba, we remember you by drinking Boba tea every May 25.

In addition, you get a whopping 6 LEGO minifigures with the set, including Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, and Boba Fett with accessories, plus a collectible Nien Nunb. When completed, the Sarlacc pit buildable model measures over 3.5 in. (9 cm) high, 8.5 in. (22 cm) wide, and 5 in. (13 cm) deep.

If want LEGO to have it their way, you may pick up the  LEGO Star Wars Desert Skiff & Sarlacc Pit (75396) Set now as you wait for the imminent arrival of the LEGO Star Wars Jabba’s Sail Barge Display Set in October.
