Well, today, it is a rumor no more because LEGO made it official earlier today. The LEGO Technic NASA Mars Rover Perseverance (41158) is not just any LEGO Technic set, btw. It is a STEM space-themed set designed to encourage children to learn more about engineering.
The set may not be 100% accurate to the actual rover but it will offer a basic idea of what makes the rover ticks, and how its features and functions work. The LEGO Technic model features 360° steering and a movable arm, plus fully articulated suspension that allows the rover to traverse uneven surfaces on all 6 wheels.
Like the actual rover that is still exploring Mars, the LEGO Technic model is accompanied by a replica mission companion, Ingenuity Helicopter.
In addition to the physical model that lets kids realize their very own Perseverance, the LEGO Technic NASA Mars Rover Perseverance (41158) uses an augmented reality app called Technic AR to give kids a “holistic experience both physically and digitally.”
The app lets kids discover educational content to get to know the real-life vehicle and its mission on Mars. The app also lets you pull an overview of the weather on Mars on demand or learn about the environment. Basically, this is not just for kids; it is every space nuts wet dream.
