I wouldn’t say Porsche was one of the icons of the 80s and you probably won’t find one in metallic hot pink with oh-so-very 80s turquoise grid pattern graphics that look right at home parked outside the Starcourt Mall. What I am trying to say is that it is not the first thing that comes into mind when we think 80s. But here it is, a 1:64 scale Matchbox die-cast that celebrates the 1980 Porsche 911 Turbo.
The Matchbox Collectors Matchbox ’80 Porsche 911 Turbo is finished in an eye-catching, metallic hot pink decorated with a turquoise grid pattern on the hood and side, turquoise stripe on the roof, “PORSCHE” on windshield and sides, “911” and “turbo” on sides, along with authentic manufacturer logos and Matchbox logo on the rear.
It is built on a black ABS base with a ZAMAC body type, rolls on premium exotic wheels with turquoise hubs, and light smoke-tinted windows. The frameless window doors can be opened to reveal a black interior featuring the iconic Porsche racing seats.
The Matchbox Collectors Matchbox ’80 Porsche 911 Turbo comes presented in an oversized acrylic case with an ’80s-themed background with a sturdy outer box. Strangely, though, the so-called ‘80s-themed background happens to be a sunset scene with what appears to be coconut or palm trees that somehow oozes with the Miami Vice vibe. Come on. I can’t be the only one who thinks that background is very Miami Vice-ish.
The Matchbox Collectors Matchbox ’80 Porsche 911 Turbo die-cast collectible will go on sale on May 25, 2023, at 9 AM, PT, for US$25 a pop.
