The new LEGO Technic Volvo L120 Electric Wheel Loader (42209) may not scale up like the recently announced LEGO Technic Volvo EC500 Hybrid Excavator, but it’s your best bet for building up your very own fleet of Volvo construction equipment. That’s right, my friends—LEGO has yet another Volvo Technic machine to add to your collection.
Arriving on June 1, 2025, with a humble 973 pieces, the 42209 features articulated steering and a shovel that can be raised, lowered, and tilted using the knob on top of the toy. It’s made for kids aged 9 and up—or you, of course—while you mimic the engine rumble. Wait. There’s no engine rumble! This thing is electric—or rather, based on electric construction equipment. It does have an engine, though, represented by three spinning gears.
This toy may measure just 14 cm high, 35 cm long, and 11 cm wide (about 5.5 x 13.5 x 4.5 inches), but man, it’s as accurate as 973 pieces can get. Speaking of details, it even has a charging port revealed by flipping open a cover. So cool.
Obviously, this toy doesn’t need charging. It’s not powered. Everything runs on your hands and imagination. Sound effects optional. Honestly, I don’t even know what the real one sounds like.
