when the world moved from CRT to LCD, we were greeted by the slim profile that LCD offers but that slim profile is a bulk now when compared to today’s LED backlit displays, which is the way we like it. honestly, we are not a fan of thickness and that applies to TV, even though we hardly get to see its side profile in our lifetime of using the TV. anyway, if going all way out thin is your cup of Earl Grey, then rejoice cos’ that’s what the LG 55EM9600 OLED TV has to offer you. besides spotting an ultra thin 4mm thickness (or should we say, thinness?) and a virtually non-existence 1mm bezel, this 55″ big screen TV also features a newly developed white OLED (WOLED) which is said to offer more accurate hues. the TV is framed by a beautiful brushed metal chassis fronted by an illuminated LG logo and uses carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP), a first for a TV. thanks to the use of CFRP, the 55EM9600 weighs just 10 kg (22 lbs). due to its slim form factor, auxiliary electronics are now housed at the base of the fixed table top stand. other features include four HDMI inputs, three USB ports, an Ethernet port, built-in WiFi, Intel’s Wireless Display (WiDi) for wireless streaming of AV signals from selected Intel-equipped laptops, Cinema 3D technology, a dual-core processor, Magic Remote with scroll wheel, voice- and gesture-recognition and the TV will come bundled with LG’s premium 3D glasses. though it is not clear how many of the latter will be included. the LG 55EM9600 is set to be available second half of this year in the US with a sticker of around $10,000. click through for a few more look.
