up to this day, most remote does without backlight and we are perfectly fine with it cos’ after all, there aren’t many buttons that we need to deal with, but that’s an entirely different story if you were to use a keyboard with your home entertainment PC or connected-TV once you kill the lights for your movie night. this is where Logitech put forth a solution: the Logitech Illuminated Living-Room Keyboard K830. honestly, the product name pretty much says it all, but you might want to know that the K830 is actually quite an intelligent piece of peripheral: it automatically adjusts the brightness of the backlit keys in accordance to the ambient light and turns off the illumination after five seconds of inactivity to save power. hit the keys and the backlit kicks back in.

if you have a mega-size living, you’d be glad to know that this rechargeable keyboard is blessed with advanced 2.4GHz wireless connectivity, allowing it to be used up 33 feet away (10 meters) and it also boasts an integrated touchpad so that you can leave the mouse out of the equation. however, the fly in the ointment is, it won’t offer the universal remote functionality like the Harmony Smart keyboard does. so there is a decision to make: backlit or universal remote capability – though knowing the price, which is peg at $99.99, might help in the decision-making process. the Logitech Illuminated Living-Room Keyboard K830 is expected to be available sometime this month. scroll down for a video of the backlit in action.

  1. I`ve been suggesting back-lit touch-pad keyboards for years. Nice to see the big companies eventually getting around to producing a few.
