Mercedes-Benz Actros with Excavator Body & Railway Undercarriage

When it comes to Mercedes-Benz trucks, they can be adapted to suit any usage or mission, including a heavy-duty recovery vehicle, a motorhome, or an expedition vehicle, for example. But did you know it can be custom to move on railway tracks with a giant-ass “vacuum cleaner” for train track maintenance too? Well, that, my friends, is what exactly AH Vrij, a Wateringen-based specialist in landscaping, excavation, and infrastructure brought a Mercedes-Benz Actros 3351L 6×4 for.

AH Vrij’s Mercedes-Benz Actros is customized with an excavator body and railway undercarriage to allow it to travel on the railway track. Sporting a three-axle design and a powerful double blower, this Actros is more than a truck—it’s essentially a massive vacuum cleaner.

The excavator body allows the vacuum hose the reach it requires. Since it rolled out, it’s been non-stop, said Rick Vriji, the third-gen owner of the company. This specialized vehicle meticulously cleans the Schiphol tunnel every quarter, clearing dust, sand, and debris, spanning 27 nights of meticulous work.
