how many of you here remember Minox? perhaps they are more known for hunting optics today but for the uninitiated, they are the same folks who created spy cameras for CIA back in the 40s – and yes, they are still alive and kicking. well, their latest camera here is no spy cam but rather a modern take of a retro-classic camera, a la-Leica M3 style.
on the outside the Classic Mini Digital Camera has got all the details of an analog camera such as the “film advance” lever, side loops for a wee camera strap and of course, a very stylish classic analog camera body. however, beneath the retro-listic look of this tiny 2″ x 3″ camera is a digital camera that features a 5.1 megapixels CMOS sensor, a Minoctar 9.0mm glass lens, a lithium-ion rechargeable battery, 128 MB of internal flash memory plus a SDHC slot that is expandable up 16GB.
it is capable of taking stills up to 2,608 x 1,956 pixels and it can even record video in AVI at 320 x 240 pixels for up to 60 seconds per clip. on top of its 2″ digital viewfinder, it comes with a removable optical viewfinder as well. its a digital camera that combines classical-flair and German-engineered quality without the insane price tag. what more could you ask for? the Minox Classic Mini Digital Camera cost just $179 a pop and are available via Photojojo.
