Ever wished you could be part of the archeology team to uncover Tutankhamun’s tomb? Well, now you can with the Montegrappa Tutankhamun Ultimate Legacy Pen which celebrates a century of his discovery. King Tut’s tomb was excavated 100 years ago in 1922. It was entombed in a trio of nested coffins, including a third and final coffin made from solid gold.
The Montegrappa Tutankhamun Ultimate Legacy Pen recreates this majestic discovery, including a diorama showcase reconstructing the young pharaoh’s burial chamber in the Valley of the Kings.
While Montegrappa did not recreate the two outer coffins made of wood, covered in gold, and precious stones, and inlaid with colorful glasses, the luxury writing instrument maker did recreate the solid gold coffin which when opened, reveals a pen fit for a king:
“Sculpted from precious metals, Tutankhamun reproduces the lavish ornamentation of the pharaoh’s golden death mask with cloisonné, bas-relief and black diamonds. It is a monument in miniature: every detail a tribute to the vital role artisans play in documenting and preserving civilizations.”
That’s the pen cap that replicates the lavish death mask. Meanwhile, the main body of the pen was sculpted to recreate the wrapping found on a mummy. The Montegrappa Tutankhamun Ultimate Legacy Pen was available as ultra-rare editions in vermeil and 18K gold, each with a limited run of just 100 pieces, and with the options of rollerball and fountain pen.
Unfortunately, though, the last time we checked, the fountain pen, which costs 12,000 euros (about US$12,758), is sold out. There’s good news, though. The rollerball is still available. It can be had for just 11,500 euros (roughly US$12,226).
