If you’re as nostalgic as I am about the Nissan Skyline GT-R, you know it hasn’t felt quite the same since they dropped “Skyline” from the name and swapped out that RB-series inline-six for a V engine. But Built By Legends has heard our cries and is bringing back the thrill of the R34 in the most iconic way possible.
Meet the Bayside Blue Custom R34 GT-R by Built By Legends. This isn’t just a car; it’s 650 horsepower of precision engineering. The engine? A MINE’S MB7 powerhouse on a 24U N1 block, married to a Getrag 6-speed transmission for a driving experience that’s all thrill, no filler. The 650-hp beast churns out jaw-dropping torque through MINE’S VX-ROM ECU, a carbon air intake, and even R35 airflow meters and injectors for a modern twist.
Handling? Handled, thanks to a serious chassis restoration by Garage Yoshida, who bring their “No Compromise” philosophy to each base R34 with a 108-point 3D alignment and 400 spot-welds across the body for strength and agility. Braking duties fall to race-grade AP Racing calipers with RDD 356mm rotors up front and rear, and custom Rays wheels, wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza 71RS tires, grip like nothing else on the road.
And because Built By Legends knows how to do things right, this R34’s interior is all class and comfort—black and navy Ultrasuede, soundproofing by Daiko, and a MINE’S D-Shape steering wheel, wrapped in Nappa leather and Alcantara, just to name a few highlights. And of course, the whole package wears the classic Bayside Blue in five glorious layers.
All of this, for a price starting at US$450,000. It’s pricey but the nostalgia is priceless, IMHO. Oh, there’s a white version, and there is a Mine’s R33 too! Holy moly! I may have discovered a JDM gem here.
The New Bayside Blue Custom R34 GT-R is premiering at this year’s edition of SEMA (Wed, 6 Nov 2024 – Sat, 9 Nov 2024) which means most regular folks will not get to see it in the flesh since it is a trade-only show.
