Nothing Phone(2a) Smartphone

Nothing has come a long way. It has become something. In fact, it is not just something. It is something times 2 with the launch of Nothing Phone(2) last year. And now, it just become something times 3 because it has just revealed its third device: the Nothing Phone(2a). However, if you are in the U.S., you cannot be too excited. Why? Well, more on that in a bit.

The new Nothing Phone (2a) focuses on camera quality and display features. It’s equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro SoC, a chip born out of a 4 nm process, and a substantial 5000mAh battery. The device showcases a 6.70-inch display, offering users a vibrant and immersive viewing experience with a 120Hz refresh rate.

Photography enthusiasts can look forward to a dual 50-megapixel rear camera setup that includes a Samsung ISOCELL S5KGN9 sensor for the primary camera and a 50MP ISOCELL JN1 sensor for the ultrawide shots, promising high-quality images. For selfies, the phone sports a 32-megapixel Sony IMX615 sensor.

The phone offers two storage options: 128 GB and 256 GB, along with RAM configurations of 8 GB and 12 GB, ensuring smooth performance across applications and multitasking needs. Operating on Android 14, it delivers an up-to-date user experience.

The design of the Phone (2a) stands out with its unique aesthetics and is available in Black and White color variants. And yes, this time, you will not mistake it for Nothing Phone(1) or the Nothing Phone(2) because it has a different design.

At a glance, the design language remains. While it still has a transparent back design that allows Nothing to showcase its signature Glyph Interface, the back cover is clearly of a different design. But the most obvious change is the dual camera’s location. They are now right smack in the center of the upper section, looking like a pair of eyes of a robot, or perhaps an owl.

It is a very exciting device. I’d be lying to say I am not sold. But here’s the thing; it is expected to cater to the Indian, European, Japanese, and other global markets.

Not that you cannot get it stateside. You can. It has limited availability because it is only available through Nothing’s developer program. But since the developer program is open to anyone, you can still get it. There is a catch, though.

According to a report, network support is, well, not great. It reportedly works with T-Mobile’s mid-band 5G but supports only LTE on Verizon and AT&T. We heard the asking price is a modest US$349.
