Good news, smartphone enthusiasts. Or rather, good news for OnePlus devotees and anyone in the market for a new flagship smartphone. OnePlus has recently unveiled its latest, the OnePlus 13, and this thing has a lot to shout about. The OnePlus 12 successor is rocking a 2.5D design front and back, and the brand’s signature original three-stage slider.
OnePlus went all out on power with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, built on a super-efficient 3 nm process. That combo, plus the phone’s 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB UFS 4.0 storage, logged a whopping 3,186,834 on AnTuTu—so it’s safe to say this one’s a speed demon.
But speed is only fun when it lasts, right? That’s why OnePlus added their second-gen “Tiangong” (not to be confused with China’s Space Station) heat dissipation system, which includes a massive 9,925 mm² vapor chamber to keep things cool even if your games are hotter than the device itself. This setup, they claim, will give you four years of smooth performance, so it’s future-proof enough to take you through plenty of app updates and battery cycles. As for gaming, this new kid also touts a self-developed gaming graphics engine.
In case you’re taking the OnePlus 13 [CH] outdoors, you’ll be happy to know the 6.82-inch, DisplayMate A++ certified “Dongfang” screen keeps things clear even in bright sunlight. It’s a 2K display with a 120 Hz refresh rate, peaks at a retina-searing 4,500 nits of peak brightness, and is packed with 1.07 billion colors. Perfect for those moments when you need a crystal-clear shot in direct daylight. I mean, sometimes the glaring sun just gets in the way of our creativity.
The display capability does not stop there. In addition to eye protection tech 2.0 (TUV certified, I believe) and ceramic glass, the touch display, which has an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor under it, works with gloves and under the rain. Speaking of rain, the device is not only !P68 rated, it is also IP69 rated too. Rounding up the display features are Dolby Vision, HDR10+, ZREAL certified, and HDR Vivid.
Speaking of shots, the tri-camera setup is the real Hasselblad deal. It is a true 50 MP setup featuring a 50MP 1/1.4” Sony LYT-808 sensor main camera with f/1.6 aperture and OIS, a 50MP 1/1.95” sensor telephoto camera boasting f/2.6 aperture, 3x optical zoom (up to 30x optical+digital zoom) and OIS, and a 120° ultra-wide 50MP handles for times when you need capture more as well as 3.5 cm macro photography. The camera also brings to the table Hasselblad portrait mode for picture-perfect portraits. Oh, did we mention that the Sony flagship sensor offers shutter speeds as fast as one ten-thousandth of a second? This is one fast snapper. Finally, there are Live photos.
And then is of course AI which includes AI voice summary, and AI photo editing which boasts a super cool AI glare removal that removes glass reflections. There is also AI removal. Now before you exclaim, “AI removal isn’t new!” You have to know this removal is full-on AI. It automatically removes passers-by without the need for you to circle the photobombing subject(s).
There is also an AI network feature that promises to bring stable and strong signals everywhere. How? Well, learning, of course, because that’s what AI does. Powerful network environment self-learning ability, can establish network signal map in the cloud, intelligently use the best network strategy according to different scenarios and network conditions, and can maintain the smooth network in places with unstable networks such as concerts, high-speed railways, and campuses.
Under the hood, the OnePlus 13 rocks a 6,000 mAh “Glacier” battery, charging fast with 100 W wired and 50 W wireless support. Other notables include a bionic vibration motor “turbo”, ultra-linear dual stereo speakers, mic call noise reduction, Wi-Fi 7, dual-band GPS, NFC, and an IR blaster. ColorOS 15 rounds out the package, introducing features like the Aurora engine for butter-smooth animations, an all-new Fluid Cloud display—OnePlus’ answer to Apple’s dynamic island, and a split-screen function.
The new OnePlus 13 Smartphone is launched in China with a starting price of 4,499 yuan [CH], or around US$634.
