OnePlus must be feeling the heat of the competitions. Perhaps, from mainstreamers like Samsung who is gearing up to announce the electronics giant’s latest flagship this week. Why? The independent company (who’s actually affiliated to Oppo, pffff…) had announced a successor to the OnePlus 3, the OnePlus 3T, barely six months after the 3 was unveiled. And just last week, we found another piece of news in our inbox: OnePlus 3T now has a new Midnight Edition which, in addition to limited online availability, OnePlus has collaborated with colette and Hypebeast to retail this very limited and arguably, sexy matte black iteration of the 3T.
In case you are going to dismiss it as just another color, well, OnePlus want to reassure you that it is not just that. Here’s the gist:
“We have been working on a black, all-metal version for a very long time. Over 30 iterations later, we’ve finally crafted a premium, all-black, metal smartphone worthy of the OnePlus logo. We start with space-grade aluminum then carefully apply a dark coating at just 14 microns thick. This process is repeated three times to impart a stunning black color while maintaining the natural look and feel of metal. To finish each device, an anti-fingerprint layer is applied to keep your device looking as new as the day you bought it.”
Beyond that, it is still the OnePlus 3T you know, touting features like 5.5-inch 1080p Optic AMOLED touch display, Corning Gorilla Glass 4, Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chip with quadcore Kryo processor, Adreno 530 GPU, 6 GB RAM, 128 GB UFS 2.0 storage, 16MP camera front and back (front Sony IMX 298 sensor and rear, Samsung 3P8SP sensor), a 3,400 mAh with dash charge (aka fast charge), dual-SIM support, Cat. 6 4G LTE radio, wireless a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, dual-mic setup with noise cancellation, Dirac HD Sound, bottom-firing speaker, plus the usual serving of sensors one expect of a modern day smartphone.
