If you think the Nintendo 2DS and its successors’ dual-screen design was groundbreaking, then you must not have seen the transforming handheld console from ONEXSUGAR that came out last year, which we somehow missed featuring. But that has since been overtaken by events. The retro gaming handheld console maker has announced yet another groundbreaking handheld that is currently in the works.

Folks, meet the ONEXSUGAR WALLET [CH], a folding-screen handheld console. That’s right. Folding screen has arrived at the handheld console. It is no longer a phone or laptop exclusive. Anyhoo… with the WALLET, ONEXSUGAR makes no compromise between size and performance, thanks to an immersive 8.1-inch screen paired with flagship Snapdragon performance, though exactly which Snapdragon chip is being used has yet to be revealed. Gamers will be able to enjoy a small tablet-sized gaming experience in a pocket-sized “wallet.”
When opened up, the 8.01-inch display offers an immersive 2,480 x 1,860 resolution, which can be used for split-screen interaction or full-screen gaming. The handheld will boast one-click switching between dual-screen modes, extensive control over fans and power consumption, and even customizable key bindings. Now that’s a customized experience.
ONEXSUGAR has partnered with China’s Blingame to adapt the Chinese indie action-adventure game HAAK for dual-screen play. And that’s just the start. The company says it will be exploring other foldable-screen gaming possibilities with additional developers.
As far as controls go, the device features an asymmetrical analog stick layout, along with a D-pad and four action buttons. Since the device is still far from ready, the pricing is still in the shadows.
