OUMOS Suitcase

Suitcases. Putting aside the features and tech, if any, they look pretty much the same as far as form goes. It is always the familiar oblong form. But not OUMOS. It is a suitcase like you have never seen before. Instead of the usual oblong form, it takes on a monolith form. I know, the increase in thickness and the relative decrease in width may not make any sense to anyone at first (you know, overhead storage?) but as far as aesthetics goes, it is with doubt a head-turner. And that’s precisely why we have to feature it here.

OUMOS Suitcase

OUMOS has to be one of the most unique – if not the most unique – luggage and the best-looking suitcase we have seen in a long time. There are two series to choose from, namely, Double Proof and Original. The former is everything the Original is but with Double Proof technology which is billed as the first of its kind in the luggage industry.

Double Proof is, according to OUMOS, “a lacquered polycarbonate shell coated with a matte cover, built to combat and conceal obvious but inevitable scratches for the well-traveled modern nomads. With every travel, leaving a unique mark on the luggage, making it the ultimate travel diary for the road.” I don’t pretend I know what it exactly does but I am pretty sure it will please the serial travelers.

Beyond that, every OUMOS features a polycarbonate shell from Bayer Makrolon, a lightweight design, a TSA-approved lock, and 360-degree silent gliding patented Japanese HIMONOTO wheels. Moreover, the suitcase has been put through rigorous tests, including a drop test, tumble test, heat-resist test, and more.

Both the Double Proof series and the Original series are available in 45L (humorously dubbed Babe) (12 gallons) and 92L (24 gallons) versions. The Original series comes in one colorway, Stormtrooper White while the Double Proof series has a choice of colorways.

The 45L model tips the scales at a mere 3.4 kilograms (7.5 lbs) and measures H32.5 x W27.5 x D54.5 cm (12.8 x 10.8 x 21.5 inches). The Double Proof, on the other hand, weighs 5.04 kilograms (11.1 lbs) and measures H74.2 x W38 x D43.6 cm (29.2 x 15 x 17.2 inches).

If the info on IATA is correct, this means the 45L version is carry-on friendly. But don’t take our word for it. Be sure to check with the airline you are traveling on to be sure. Before that though you have to know the OUMOS does not come cheap. Price starts at $530 for the Original and $550 for the Double Proof.
