Here’s another collectible coming from Fools Paradise that no anime fans can ignore. This time it is PINO getting all dressed up as Shotaro Kaneda from the 80s cult anime Akira – complete with the iconic futuristic motorcycle. Not going to lie. The bike is a big draw to me. Kaneda may be the poster boy for the 1988 anime but it was his bike that made the poster so iconic.
This collectible may pay homage to one of the most celebrated anime of all time but it is anything but doom and gloom. PINO is one happy, gun-toting rider. And it has a companion: a tiny cricket. I have no idea what’s up with the cricket. I am going to assume it is a play on a scene from Disney’s Big City Greens where Cricket did the Akira bike slide. I could be wrong though.
Anyhoo, Cricket measures an adorable 60 mm (2.4 inches) tall while the main figure is 305 mm (12 inches) tall and the bike is 407 mm (16 inches) wide.
The PINO // TOKYO is available for preorder for US$468 plus shipping. It is a limited edition collectible with an edition number of just 499. It is expected to start shipping in Q2 2024.
