Folding knives are compact, but they still insist on having a blade no longer than their handle. But what if the blade need not be the same length or shorter than the handle? Well, that, my friends, is exactly what the Collapsing Blade Mk12 by Polydont LLC brings to the table. Trust me, this little guy is going to make folding knives look like ancient engineering.
Collapsed—yes, collapse, not fold—the Mk12 measures 4.50 inches (11.43 cm) long. Locked open, it stretches to 10.25 inches (26.04 cm), transforming from a chunky pocket object into something that looks suspiciously ready for a science-fiction duel. It measures 1.47 inches (3.73 cm) tall and 0.64 inches (1.63 cm) wide, excluding the clip.
The Mk12 replaces the previous design’s mechanical subassemblies with individual parts capable of performing the same functions. Its non-planar blades use opposing chisel profiles to form one continuous cutting edge. The resulting mechanism is smaller, proportionally stronger, smoother to operate, easier to manufacture, and cheaper to produce. Basically, fewer tiny parts waiting to ruin someone’s afternoon at the assembly bench.
Construction remains appropriately serious. The primary assembly uses Type 2 anodized Grade 5 titanium, while the cutting blades are made from rust-blued 1095 spring-tempered steel. Stainless-steel fasteners hold everything together, and the solid 3D-printed PETG grips come in black or white. A formerly welded titanium component is now machined from 6061-T6 aluminum for better durability and color customization.
