POPMART, the curator and toymaker of the hugely popular SPACE MOLLY line of characters created by Hong Kong-based artist Kenny Wong, has partnered with Neon Genesis Evangelion for a special edition MEGA SPACE MOLLY collectible figure.
This is the second time in recent months MOLLY has assumed the identity of a mecha. For the POPMART MEGA SPACE MOLLY Evangelion Figure, dear Big MOLLY’s iconic spacesuit has been decked out in the familiar purple and green colorway of the Evangelion Test Type-01.
While the sculpt of the EVA-themed suit remains largely the same, we noted the buttons on the have different shapes. In addition to the obvious EVA-01 colors, MOLLY’s suit is also treated to additional design touches like a V pattern in green on the abdomen area that recalls the midriff of the mecha and the green top cap with “holes” that is a nod to the giant mecha’s foot guard.
Rounding up the design an EVANGELION name tag on the chest and NERV logo printed on the earcups of the helmet. Unlike the Gundam collab, this MOLLY has a clear visor.
The POPMART MEGA SPACE MOLLY Evangelion Figure goes on sale on August 11, 2023, as a China-exclusive figure. It is available in 1000% and 400% for about 5998 yuan and 1,299 yuan (approximately US$824 and US$178) respectively. However, the last we check, 400% are sold out in China. Ugh.
For the uninitiated, 1000% stand 700 mm (around 28 inches or 2.3 feet) tall while 400% is about 295 mm (about 12 inches) tall.
