One of China’s most popular collectible dolls/figures is MOLLY created by Hong Kong-based artist Kenny Wong. If you haven’t heard about it or gotten into collecting MOLLY, well, you may want to if you are a super fan of Mobile Suit Gundam because POP MART, the toy maker for Kenny’s Molly figure, has partnered with Bandai Namco for a special edition MEGA SPACE MOLLY figure.
The POPMART MEGA SPACE MOLLY 1000% Mobile Suit Gundam RX-78-2 Gundam figure, as it is called, has SPACE MOLLY in her space suit decked out in the iconic RX-78-2 Gundam colors.
For the uninitiated, SPACE MOLLY is a series of MOLLY in a space suit. The design of the space suit is pretty standard. It has a pair of hoses that connects the front to a jet pack and MOLLY has a helmet, usually with headphones-like earcups and an articulated visor.
Like BE@RBRICK, it is offered in sizing based on percentage. In the case of MOLLY, it comes in 400% and 1000% (29.5 cm and 70 cm, respectively), in addition to the regular blind box size.
With the POPMART MEGA SPACE MOLLY 1000% Mobile Suit Gundam RX-78-2 Gundam figure it is still the familiar space suit but in the familiar RX-78-2 colors. For this version, MOLLY has yellow eyes with a red eye mask of sorts. Bringing down the visor reveals the actual RX-78-2 face features, well, albeit in a spherical shape which is kind of adorable.
The POPMART MEGA SPACE MOLLY Gundam Figure can be found on China’s e-commerce retailer, Taobao.com, for 5,800-6,895 yuan (around US$841-1,000), depending on the retailers.
