With 268 HP on the tap, the new Smart #1 is considered a performance electric SUV but if that’s not enough to satisfy the power-hungry you, then the BRABUS version is your go-to Smart #1. And as a boon, it looks sportier too – thanks to the BRABUS aero kit including a front spoiler, side skirts, and rear roof spoiler, and a pair of air intakes on the hood.
Under the hood, the BRABUS Smart #1’s electric motor is tweaked to produce 315 kW (422 hp) and 543 Nm (400 lb-ft) of torque that would enable it to rocket from 0-100 in just 3.9 seconds. Top speed, however, remains at 180 km/h (112 mph).
It is paired with a 66 kW NCM battery that is good for 320 km (199 miles) range and supports fast charging that would take it from 10-80% in 30 mins.
The BRABUS-touched Smart #1 further boasts a four-wheel drive system that offers rear-wheel drive, part-time four-wheel drive, and full-time four-wheel drive with four drive modes, namely, Eco, Comfort, Sport, and BRABUS modes:
“Eco mode uses rear-wheel drive and is suitable for normal daily urban commuting road conditions, also considering rear-drive driving fun – and the longer battery life. Comfort mode uses part time four-wheel drive, which is suitable for scenarios such as holiday travel. In Sport mode, full-time four-wheel drive is activated, with power always on call. In BRABUS mode, the front and rear motors are fully unleashed to 100% power, instantly bursting with adrenaline-pumping torque and delivering a supercar-level driving experience.”
Like a true sports car, the BRABUS Smart #1 touts a 50:50 weight distribution ratio. Meanwhile, handling is bolstered front MacPherson and rear five-link independent suspension. It rolls on large 19-inch Dynamo wheels, wrapped in 235/45 R19 tires, with red brake calipers.
Other highlights include CyberSparksLED+ headlights with adaptive high beam, floating halo roof, sports pedal, microfiber suede seats with BRABUS logo on the headrest and beautiful red 3-point seatbelt, a leather interior with red stitching, a black and grey tones Alcantara sports steering wheel also contrasting red stitching and a Beats 13-speaker sound system.
The BRABUS Smart #1 is presented in a two-tone design, featuring radiant red and Atom grey matte. It is also offered in other colors, including all Atom grey matte, radiant red and cyber silver metallic, eclipse black and laser red metallic, and meta black metallic – just to name a few.
This delightful performance variant of the Smart #1 was officially launched in China at the 25th Chengdu Motor Show on August 26, 2022, with a starting price of 279,000 yuan (about US440,472). If anyone’s interested, it is now available to reserve in the UK for £42,000.
