you know the frustration when handling cardboard boxes; they are cumbersome and never easy to pack (from flat-packed stage, that is), and not to mention they are a pain to open without whipping out a box cutter. despite that, cardboard boxes have remained largely unchanged for decades and with billions of them being produced in the U.S.A alone, it is no doubt that cardboard boxes have a huge impact on the environment. however, that it is set to change with the The Rapid Packing Container, an ingenious packing container (made of cardboard, of course) developed by two engineering students from Cooper Union, that not only eliminates the frustration involving packing and unpacking, but also deals with it in a significantly environment-friendly way.
The Rapid Packing Container is said to use between 15 and 20 percent less cardboard and offers a near-instantaneous forming of the box for a quicker, hassle-free packing. with this invention, there is no taping required to secure the box and when the package reaches you, an easy one-push opening makes retrieving the contents at the blink of an eye. additionally, The Rapid Packing Container has a reversible design which allows it to be turned inside out for reusing. and being truly flat-pack, they are easier to store and also takes up less space too.
but there’s a catch though; the design of this box requires the use of a purpose built jig that makes the swift, one-push box forming a reality and you can imagine how big that jig would be for say, a 25-kg box from freight companies like Fedex. moreover, the one-push opening can only hold true if there is no shipping label stuck to that face of the box. nevertheless, The Rapid Packing Container is applaudable for taking us one step closer to a frustration-free packing and unpacking process, and also alleviating the tree-crunch. check out The Rapid Packing Container in action in the embedded video below.
