RedMagic Astra Gaming Tablet

Handheld consoles are all the rage these days, but if you prefer a big screen handheld gaming device—one that lets you do other things like watching videos, sending a couple of emails, and such—well then, a gaming tablet such as the just-launched RedMagic Astra Gaming Tablet may be the way to go. It (a gaming tablet) is really the best of both worlds.

This super sleek gaming tablet benefits from the power of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Edition Mobile Platform, featuring Oryon cores with clock speeds up to 4.32 GHz and an Adreno GPU. Like RedMagic phones, the SoC isn’t alone in pushing the limits of mobile gaming; there’s RedMagic’s very own RedCore R3 Pro, a custom co-processor that offers gaming-specific enhancements.

The co-processor allows for features like super-resolution upscaling to 2K at up to 120 fps—yes, upscaling on a tablet. It also promises ultra-low latency input for faster response times, enhanced haptics for improved tactile feedback, and directional audio processing for immersive sound cues.

The SoC is backed by LPDDR5T RAM and UFS 4.1 Pro flash storage. The former boasts 9,600 Mbps data transfer speeds, and the latter is said to offer a 36% improvement in performance.

Aesthetically, it continues RedMagic’s design language of a transparent metal body with rounded corners that looks oh-so-futuristic. Fronting the device is a 9.06-inch 2.4K OLED display capable of up to 165 Hz refresh rate, a mind-bending 2,000 Hz touch sampling rate, and a 240 Hz multi-finger touch sampling rate. The display has a resolution of 2,400 x 1,504 pixels in a 16:10 aspect ratio, resulting in a pixel density of 313 ppi. It offers 1,600 nits peak brightness and supports the DCI-P3 wide color gamut.

Rounding out the display features are SGS-certified eye protection, Corning Gorilla Glass, and an IP54 rating.

Other worthy mentions include a 13-layer ICE-X cooling system, an 8,200 mAh battery with fast charging support, dynamic RGB lighting, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port with Type-C interface, RedMagic Magic Key, DTS:X Ultra 3D stereo, dual 1620 speakers, and dual 0815 X-axis linear motors.

The RedMagic Astra Gaming Tablet is set to hit the market soon with a starting price of US$499.
